more code silliness.

now examining this:

anyone with experience, please let us know.

Lua has been assimilated, and it seems like Simply Superior will be joining the illustrious ranks of Angry Birds. how life twists and turns into strange pretzel-like forms when we're not looking. prototypes are beginning to form. more hats in air, but cautiously, Richter fans.

what you see here is an actual KUNDABUFFER logo on an Android tablet as part of a native app's embedded movie. it was almost certain that this couldn't be done, and was certain that it was (and is).

oh, the excitement.

the joy of development, episode 27.

another few days cracking eggs with sticks and possibly putting the remnants in baskets. after very careful experimentation, haggling with the soul, screaming and shouting at and into thin air, and observing the flexing of muscles designed originally to pull hair out but rendered superfluous because of the lack of said excess of protein, the apps will be divided; that is, the two or three paths will not converge, as making them all the same on all the devices is, well, silly. not the kind of silliness I wholeheartedly approve of, which I hold (every dear to me) to exist. the Android and iOS parties (and what a depressing party it is, to be sure) have ensured by collective egotism of just stupidity to make each other mutually exclusive in just about every detail. therefore, we shall REJOICE in the differences! we shall make a feature out of this gimcrackery and belly-button fluff disputation! this means, practically squeaking, that 'features' will be exclusive and diverge from each other, as the platforms continue to develop and emerge. the principal requirements will be: that people 'accessing' these items be prepared to read and not to 'skim' (ways are being developed by our good offices to, if not enforce that requirement, then to strongly encourage it) - they shall be places where rather unexpected and non-user-friendly things will happen. for good reasons, let it be known! in any case, time is running out for the acceptance of suggestions, and soon the concrete will be poured over the foundations. you have been warned. mad surprise of the day: the extreme difficulty with which an iOS device plays a assured this will not be a problem, and that eager potential buyers may expect a plethora of food for...thought, well, yes, and other things...

footnote: the wood for the lids of the DJARTKLOM boxes was supplied with the assurance that "it wouldn't happen again". and it has. but subscribers can be assured that Real Soon Now is a reality.

come in No.37, your time is up.

hereby is the last chance to say what you want in the forthcoming Simply Superior apps, which are in the final planning stages. please be nice and polite and tell us what you want for your favourite pagan celebration offering, and earnest consideration, you may be assured, will be bestowed upon whatever you inscribe on these silicon tablets. time is running out, ladies and men!

the stuff of thought.

Sean Booth from Autechre and Mr. McKenzie spoke for a long time on the Simply Superior teleconference. it could be argued that some things they spoke about would have been interesting for others. but those others were...busy.

Our associates at Zikzira Physical Theatre would appear to be nearing their long travail concerning their film which The Hafler Trio have completed a soundtrack for. at some point in the blessedly near future, it would seem that a journey to Shepperton Studios in the UK will become a reality in order to cross T's and dot I's, and then to unleash its benevolent grandeur upon an expectant world. or something. Simply Superior is in the process of designing the titles. another of Zikzira's projects, "Eu Vos Liberto" has a 5.1 surround score, which was premiered in Brazil some time ago. there are currently no plans to release this rather substantial work. unless you have other ideas.

All the News that's Fit to Utter, like. #1

as subscribers know, the boxes and books have been constructed for the new edition, VENJULEGA, a project that finally finds its expression through the august processes referred to. elbow grease has indeed been expended, and the written, sound and other materials are being slowly, carefully, and, dare we say it, beautifully assembled. it does the heart good. this project has quite a history, and some remnants are here. in addition, this is the last DJARTKLOM which will be in this form: a completely different format is being designed and worked on. those interested in trying to influence the next project to be undertaken are directed to look at the list here, and vote/cajol/scream and shout here on this blog for all to see. breath will not be held. those concerned as to the fate of the last TROGOAUTOEGOCRAT offerings to have the format are advised that the matter(s) are well in hand. we anticipate, quite a degree more than tentatively, that all this matter of items will be shipped before the Yuletide delights materialise.

although not strictly a Simply Superior product, The DREAMACHINE - a re-release of the material previously on KK Records, Staalplaat etc, together with massively expanded book, 5.1 surround soundtracks and versions of the original pieces as well as documentary footage is ready. well, that’s not true, actually. it was ready. you see, even after all these years, the PAL/NTSC ‘situation’ is still unresolved, and well, yes, the footage is...yes, PAL. and it seems that market forces still indicate that the visually inferior NTSC is to be produced. however, the footage is on a hard disk that has given up the ghost. what stands in the way, then, we hear you ask, as if in a chorus invisible? well, the wherewithal to revive and coerce these lovely pieces of data and make it go right, as the Scientologists say. we do hope, pray, and touch pieces of wood in the fervent hope that this situation will be resolved ‘afore long.

Simply Superior
has plans to visit Russia early in the new year, to give workshops, conduct private consultation sessions, and generally spread Light & Joy to (some of) those in Moscow and Smolensk. more news of this as it makes itself available to one or more of the senses. those wishing to get involved or otherwise take advantage of the opportunities for interaction in those cities should contact Aleksas.

we previously were hopeful that a resolution to the practicalities regarding a proposed ‘tour’ of 10 cities in the USA via a specially constructed piece. this is now no longer the case, and we regret this projects’ passing. we would still like to arrange something in the USA, so if anyone has serious suggestions for such an undertaking and would like to help facilitate same, you know where to get in touch.

Simply Superior is seeking an Agent for the booking, internationally, of events of all kinds. a generous commission is offered for successfully executed events. many outsourcing options have been investigated, but all have been found lacking. serious applications, please, for this unique, timely, and exciting possibility of real, engaged and committed action.

the Simply Superior teleconferences will shortly, inevitably, and delightfully be made available via podcast ‘soon’. this is true. they continue to be as varied as they are in number, and as such, there for the next one!

so what has been left out here? feel free to post a question!

the joy of development

...and here we are, in the throes of attempting to produce the delights which the mobile application can supply. well, at least in theory. here are some of the tools currently under review and/or active investigation :

Adobe Dreamweaver: their own website gives an error message when trying to access a trial version of the software. no resolution for this found. gave the impression it might be a streamlined way to construct applications, otherwise wouldn't have touched it with even your barge pole.
Adobe Flash/Flex: this will simply not even install. can find no reference at all to the returned error message other than on Windows, which talks of being unable to create an ARP entry for the EN_US locale. Flash is apparently being phased out / not supported on mobile devices, so perhaps this is barking up the wrong cat.
XCode finally works, but the signing process is akin to chewing aluminium foil while shaving the head with a cheese-grater. essential to use if application is to be signed and put in app store.
Eclipse IDE: this has been possible to install and operate, however feels like trying to ride a dead Tyrannosaurus Rex. integration with Flex etc impossible as yet due to installation errors which are as yet unresolved. to be used, as it is the most common way to develop Android applications
Phonegap: promising. signing process still hinders progress.
Appcelerator: insane reinventing-the-wheel Eclipse clone IDE, and massive memory issues when moving beyond demo app construction - it seems that it simply does not wish to clean up after itself.
Rhodes: another language to learn. ah. well.
Mosync: not as yet investigated.
Whoop: ditto.
WidgetPad: next for the chopping block.

a rough schema has now been completed as to the rough internal structure of three possible apps to begin with. we proceed, head held high, with a jaunty smile on the face and a half-spring in the step. anyone wishing to contribute, get involved, yadda, and indeed, yadda, please get in touch. you know it makes sense.

The Inaugural Post

*meep*. that is to say, the first post of Your Humble Narrator on this outlet, mainly intended for informative and technical discussions/matters. my compliments to the Chef.

if you missed the last teleconference, there was much chat about informational and forthcoming projects, mish-mashed together into a delightful potpourri of benevolent and perhaps slightly despotic self-promotion. all the more reason to tune into the next exciting installment.
